File Things Away

I asked him how he copes with stress

He said he files things away

Before he has to buckle down

And get on with the rest of his day

I told him my brain is quite a mess

I have never known that skill

I stack things up in piles at best

Crowding desks and window sills

He said he tucks away those thoughts

Returns when he is capable

For if he let them clutter his head

Anxiety would be inescapable

I know that feeling all too well

Being stuck in my own fears

Unable to see past mounds of doubt

That I have been building for years

So I shall try and file, too

Get my priorities straight

Put doubt in a drawer for later

And pray that it can wait

For me it was more like a game of Buckaroo. Eventually it was too much and didn’t go too well. Now I just rage a little bit and get it out my system. Extinguish the flame before it becomes a full-blown conflagration (big word, I’m proud of myself 🙂 )

  2. I am one of those who has to put things away in the file cabinet. Every so often, the shredder has to help the file drawer gain more room.
